Plaster is Heavy.

Since I'm putting a new window in what will be the studio, I need to get the old plaster walls down before the contractors get here. Getting the walls down wasn't a problem, just a lot of force and dust. Once I was done with one wall, I had a floor full of plaster, wood lathe and other bits, such as the one pad of insulation. Guess I found the "partial" insulation they were talking about.

I didn't have much room to work, so I figured I would clean up and carry the wreckage down to the garage until Saturday when I could take it to the transfer station (ie, dump). The lathe and other wood products were separated into their own pile, because they are cheaper to get rid of by themselves. Keep that in mind in case you ever have to deal with plaster: Plaster might be classed differently from other debris and be more expensive, so keep it in a different pile.

Then I started shoveling the plaster into garbage bags. I was only able to get 5 or 6 shovel-fulls in before the bag became too heavy to lift. Then I had to carry those bags down the stairs. There ended up being almost a ton of plaster from 4 walls!

There has to be an easier way to take care of this for next time . . .
